PORCELAIN

Porcelain’s asthetic value has paved the way to its continuous popularity in the past and in the future. Porcelain is made by mixing water with clay and other materials although clay makes up only a small portion of it. Other materials that composes porcelain are feldspar, glass, and quartz. It is formed in high temperatures ranging from 1200 Celsius to 1400 Celsius. Its name came from an Itallian word, porcella, which means pig’s back because its shape resembles the back of a pig. It was first discovered by Chinese and they exported it to different countries during that time. Porcelain was introduced tremendously through the Silk Road where trade usually occurs. It is very tough but fragile, transluscent, white, low in permeability, resistant to electricity, and resistant to chemicals.

It is indeed a fact that porcelain is highly demanded by a lot of people who appreciates its asthetic value. It is a material that mirrors a culture and lifestyle of grace and art. Porcelain symbolizes sophistication and glamour. These traits are just what people of today value.
